Super Nintendo Entertainment System 2
Nel tentativo di prolungare la vita del Super Nintendo, Nintendo of America lanciò il SNES 2 nel 1997, similmente a ciò che era stato precedentemente fatto con il NES 2.
Il SNES 2 era disponibile solo negli Stati Uniti e in Giappone, ma non fu mai pubblicato in Europa. Era più piccolo e leggero rispetto alla versione originale, mancava l’espansione e le porte RF del vecchio modello, anche se l’hardware interno rimase esattamente lo stesso. La decisione di spedire il SNES 2 con Super Mario World 2 fu piuttosto azzeccata, come avvenne per Super Mario World con il SNES. Il SNES 2 fu rilasciato in Giappone come il Super Famicom 2. L’unica differenza era la colorazione e la fessura per le cartucce.
In definitiva, il SNES fu surclassato dai nuovi sistemi a 32 bit, e la produzione fu interrotta nel 1999.
